Boston Big Bones Bash

Over 125 teens in Boston and the surrounding areas rose to the Cabot Calcium Challenge issued by the dairy farmers of Cabot Creamery of Vermont. In all, 125 entries were submitted and 50 finalists representing 125 students were chosen from entries sent in from 13 schools and organizations. These finalists were showcased at the Big Bones Bash, held at Boston Children’s Museum on April 9, 2005. The winners were chosen by a panel of celebrity judges including Julie Foudy, Co-Captain of the 2004 Gold Medal U.S. Women’s Olympic Soccer Team, Dr. Bruno Frohlich, Forensic Anthropologist from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, Dr. Christina Economos from Tufts University, Nicola DiFelice, President of Shaw’s Supermarkets, John Malcolm, one of the dairy farmer owners of Cabot, Deb Lawler from WBZ Radio and an outstanding area honor student.

The grand prize winners received checks payable to their sponsoring school/organization: two $1000 awards, five $500 awards and ten $100 awards. Every teen who entered received a Cabot's Calcium Crisis Challenge t-shirt and a Certificate of Appreciation.. Cabot Creamery Cooperative is a founding sponsor of the Calcium Crisis Challenge designed to arrest the critical calcium deficiency among teens – by having teens tell teens the important calcium messages. Big Bones Bash sponsors include 3-A-DAY, New England Dairy & Food Council, Dannon yogurt, Hood milk, Shaw’s Supermarkets and WBZ radio. The Calcium Crisis Challenge was created by Cabot as part of its ongoing effort to raise awareness of this national health crisis while engaging those most at risk – our nation’s children – in the awareness process. Cabot has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and makes a full line of cheeses, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and butter. Cabot is owned by the dairy farm families of Agri-Mark, the Northeast’s premier dairy cooperative. For additional information on Cabot Creamery, please visit our web site at www.cabotcheese.com.
