The Calcium Challenge gave my students an opportunity to ask questions on
their own which led to discovery and because of it, retain the information
they learned.

are offered more of these foods at mealtimes as their parents’ awareness
has increased.
-Arlene Swan-Mahony, MHA, RN, Patriots Trail Girls Scout Troup
Leader, Rosindaler, Ma.
The Calcium Challenge exhibits showed that these students have worked hard
to understand the benefits of calcium to their bones. I was impressed
by their ability to express the facts and the science they learned in the process.

This (activity) is a great segue into the topics I was planning to cover in
Media class, and I can definitely incorporate this into the lessons I'm planning
for Public Speaking class. I'm thinking I'll probably make this a required
in-class project for every one of my 6th and 7th grade classes. -- It's tough
to write a curriculum, but it makes it much easier when there are incentives
for the students-- it gets them to invest themselves in the learning.
-Katie Quackenbush, Media Arts teacher, Milton Pierce School, Milton, Massachusetts.
As a result of the Calcium Challenge and Big Bones Bash experience, we have
incorporated more education about calcium intake in our cafeteria menus and
plan to use the activity with our middle school science classes doing our own
Big Bone Bash events for the community.
- Maureen McKenna, Science Teacher, Broad Meadows Middle School, Quincy,
Massachusetts.
