Miami Big Bones Bash

Over 150 teens in Miami-Dade school district rose to the Cabot Calcium Challenge issued by the dairy farmers of Cabot Creamery of Vermont. In all, 46 entries were submitted and 34 finalists representing 150 students were chosen from entries sent in from nine schools and organizations. These finalists were showcased at the Big Bones Bash, held at the Miami Children's Museum on November 10, 2007. The winners were chosen by a panel of celebrity judges including Dr. Bruno Frohlich, Forensic Anthropologist from the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History; Kevin Moore, Dairy Farmer in Wauchula, Florida and Board Member of Florida Dairy Farmers, Inc; Howard Cohen, Music Critic for the Miami Herald and Health and Fitness writer; Ava D. Innerarity Rosales, M.S, Science Teacher, Curriculum Support Specialist with Miami Dade County Public Schools; Paula Nelson-Shokar, Science Supervisor for Miami Dade County and College Professor; and Carlos Bared, President and CEO, Farm Stores Corporation, Gardener's Supermarkets, Inc and current President of Miami Children's Museum Board of Directors.

The grand prize winners received checks for their sponsoring school/organization: two $1,000 awards, five $500 awards and ten $100 awards.

Every teen participant received a Cabot's Calcium Challenge T-shirt and a Certificate of Appreciation. Check out our Event Photo Gallery!

Cabot Creamery Cooperative is a founding sponsor of the Calcium Challenge designed to arrest the critical calcium deficiency among teens - by having teens tell teens about the importance of calcium in their daily diet. Miami Big Bones Bash sponsors include Cabot Creamery Cooperative, Miami Children's Museum, DFI, 3ADay, Publix, Velda, Miami Parking Authority, and Nuestros Hijos. The Calcium Crisis Challenge was created by Cabot as part of its ongoing effort to raise awareness about this national health crisis while engaging those most at-risk - our nation's children - in the awareness process. Cabot has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and makes a full line of cheeses, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and butter. Cabot is owned by the dairy farm families of Agri-Mark, the Northeast's premier dairy cooperative. For additional information on Cabot Creamery, please visit our web site at www.cabotcheese.com.
